The purpose of the Friendship Program is to ensure that American Indian students complete high school and experience successful cross-cultural relationships with sponsors. Sponsorship provides mentoring and educational support to American Indian students throughout New Mexico and Arizona. The sponsorship relationship is nurtured and monitored by a network of community volunteers and Friendship staff. Through correspondence, phone calls, and visits, sponsors and students build relationships that encourage students’ success at school, increase their self-esteem, and help them gain the skills and experience to become active members of the community.
