Gallup McKinley County School Counseling Department

The education of all students must become the mission of all counselors. We believe that education must challenge all students to reach their potential academically, socially and emotionally.

GMCS counselors do not discriminate with regard to race, culture, ancestry, color, national origin, sex, age, religion or handicap.

All GMCS counselors adhere to the American School Counselors Code of Ethics.

School Counselors Can Help in Many Situations

Students:

  • My parents are getting a divorce. I don’t know what is going to happen.
  • I am new here and I am having trouble making friends.
  • I don’t have a problem, but I just want to tell you about my friend who is talking about killing himself.
  • I need help with my study skills.
  • I worry about someone I know who drinks.
  • Someone in my family died.

Parents:

  • I have a lot of difficulty dealing with my child/stepchild.
  • My child needs help, and I don’t know where to turn.
  • It is a battle to get my daughter to school every morning.
  • Fred scores low on standardized test but makes good grades in class.

Teachers/Staff

  • I need some ideas for helping students to get along with each other.
  • Tommy is showing little initiative in completing school assignments and projects.
  • Mary has been absent from school an awful lot this year.
